Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born on the 20th of October 1964, she is the 49th Vice-President of the United States. Harris is the first female vice-president and highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as also the first African American and second Asian American vice president. As a member of the Democratic Party, she has previously served as the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017, and as the state's attorney general from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California from 2011 to 2021. Born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then recruited by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. She was elected Attorney general of California in the year 2010. In 2014, she won re-election. Harris was the junior United States Senate from California from 2017-2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the first African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. She was a senator , and campaigned for reforms to healthcare, federal cannabis de-scheduling, an opportunity to become a citizen for immigrants who are not legally documented as well as the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. Her name is well-known due to the direct questioning she conducted of Trump government officials during Senate hearings.
